This week was great! I had a lot of fun and got some work
done. I've been sick now for two and a half months, and I'm getting so tired of
it. Other than that things are fine. Not much progress with the headaches has
happened, although my meds are beginning to kick in. The pills are working, but
they keep me up at night. I don't know why, they just do. But oh well, I just
get some extra studying in. Anyway, on with the week!
Tuesday I went on an exchange with Elder Renel. He's my
roommate and is from France. He's a pretty cool guy. We went and did service in
the morning, so that was fun. We cleaned books for children. It's a really cool
program where people will donate lightly used books to this program and then
they clean them and store them. When the
end of the school year comes every student at school whose parents don't make
much money get to take home 6 books of their own. A lot of those kids don't
have things like television and Internet to keep them entertained, so they give
them books. The kids that take them home, read them, and enjoy them have higher
reading levels and their abilities to read don't atrophy over the summer like
most other kids. It's a really neat program. I probably cleaned around
80 books in that time. It was a good time.
I've found that I know a lot of jokes as I've been on my
mission. Like, a lot. I have 160 of them written down, because I want to make a
202 jokes book and get it published. That's how many I know! It's kind of
hilarious when I just keep going and going.
There's an Elder in our zone that loves hearing jokes, so I basically
told him every joke I know. Some of the people thought I was pretty annoying,
but Elder Campbell thought they were awesome and even told me a few that I
hadn't heard. My repertoire is quite impressive. One that Elder Campbell taught
me was, “What do you call a pile of cats? A meowntain.” Another
one was, what do you call a lazy kangaroo? A pouch potato. Oh man, you gotta love good jokes!
Wednesday I went on another exchange! This time it was
with Elder Loyola from Micronesia, which is in the western pacific. He's a
pretty cool guy! I felt bad because I had a bad night the night before and just
slept the entire day because of it. We went to have interviews with President
Jenkins at 10 and at 11 when we got back I fixed a quick lunch and then slept
for about 5 hours. He said he didn't mind and that he needed to prepare for a
talk he was giving soon and enjoyed the extra study time. I'm not sure how true
it was, but I was glad that he said it anyway. I seriously felt sooooo bad for
sleeping so long. I seriously only meant to sleep for no more than an hour or
so. I guess my body just really needed it.
Thursday I got Elder Edwards back. It was good! I missed
him. He's been a great companion so far. I really enjoy him and we get along
great. He even pretends to laugh at my jokes sometimes! (My jokes are hilarious
to some, but I guess I'm not quite up to snuff with the British humor, or
should I say humour?) anyway, that was a good day and we got a lot done. We
went and visited some people and had an awesome dinner!
So I don't know if this bad or weird or what, but on my
mission I've acquired a taste for awkward. I really enjoy sitting in
awkwardness! We went over to this family’s
house and they're super quiet. They weren't really sure what to say. Don't
worry, I never leave the house with it being awkward, so just a disclaimer
there. We sat down to eat, said a
prayer, and then silence. Everyone was eating and looking at each other and not
saying a word because they didn't know what to say. Elder Edwards is very aware
of my taste for awkward moments, and man! This was like a five-minute silence.
I almost started laughing. It was so
weird to be there. Finally, Elder
Edwards was able to break the ice a little bit and we had some good
conversation, but that initial ten minutes were so weird! It was incredible.
It was pretty funny last night. We went over to the Sol's
house to fill out their daughter’s baptismal record because we lost the first
one. Elder Edwards showed them that he
could make a paper bird and a paper bunny. Their son Angel came up to me and asked
if I could make an airplane and I said the best thing I think I could have.
"Abbra kadabr! You're an airplane!" Sister Sol about died and Angel
had no clue what I was talking about. It was so funny though! I eventually did
make an airplane for him, so that was good, but it was a great night! I hope
you all have a great week! I love you all!
Love,
Elder Mullins
