Introducing Johnny Toad, Fluffy Taran Tula, and Randall Snake!

Dear family and friends,

This week was a pretty great week! We had all sorts of things happening all week long.  Monday evening was really exciting because Patricia was able to have her baptismal interview with President Jenkins. She'll most likely be getting baptized in the next three weeks!

We taught Rowie this week again. It's been about three weeks since we last taught her.  We taught her about the Plan of Salvation which was really great. She enjoyed it a lot. She has baptism as an end goal, but she says she has a few things that she is working through before she is willing to commit. Hopefully she can get through those things. We assured her that it is definitely okay to do that. We aren't worried at all about her not getting baptized ever.  She will no doubt be baptized one day. I hope that I can be here to see it, but you never know what might happen. She is super solid and reads from the Book of Mormon almost every single day.

We usually go down to Mesa the night before we have anything going on there, and we had our temple trip the next day.   We headed home a little bit early so that we could get over to the Assistant’s apartment before 10:30.   As we were driving up the hill to our house there was a frog jumping around in front of us.  So we did what any good missionary would do:  we stopped the car, got out, picked him up, took him to our apartment, and held him captive for about 20 minutes before we let him go! His name was Johnny.  He was a good toad, even though he peed all over me.   We went down to the valley and the temple was really good! I really enjoyed it a lot. I learned a ton. After the temple we took care of a few other errands we had to run while we were in Mesa since we don't plan on being there again until transfers, which is in a few weeks. We also went to lunch at Chipotle because last time we went one of the girls working there was super nice and gave us all free entree tickets. So yah! Free Chipotle! It was really good!

A few days ago it was pretty cloudy up in the mountains. We saw that the clouds were actually touching the mountain. It had been a long time since either Elder Jencks or I had been in a cloud, so we decided we should head up there and get a picture.   So instead of doing our weekly planning at the church, we did it while heading up the mountain. We got a few pictures up there and it was all fine and good. Then we decided to go down the other side of the mountain, for whatever reason, while we finished weekly planning.   When we got to the other side I felt like I was in the Hobbit. There were literally hundreds of spider webs in the trees and lining the road. We're talking GIANT spider webs! Like, I've never seen anything like it.  I threw a rock at one and the rock got caught in it. I mean, they were some nasty, nasty webs! It was insane! I have no clue what spun them, but I know that there were a lot of them. Elder Jencks and I got a few pictures of them.   Some of them were three or four feet wide and probably a foot thick all the way around! I would guess that a bird could get caught in those things. It was insane. Then later on our way down the mountain we almost ran over a tarantula. We stopped, I got out, and with my empty drink cup I scooped it up and we took him home. His name is Fluffy. Don't worry, he's not a pet because he isn't tame, and we don't keep him for comfort or pleasure. He's only a captive. But anyway, we caught him and brought him home and put him in the biggest jar we had. We'll probably end up releasing him today or tomorrow.  We want to show the rest of our zone and they're probably coming over to our apartment today. We fed him a cockroach and that was pretty sweet!

Yesterday on our way home from our area we were taking the back way since we were pretty much at the mouth of the canyon.  As we were heading down I saw a snake in the middle of the road; so of course, I stopped. I got out with my iPad, looked at it and it was a rattle snake! It wasn't too big, but it was still a rattler. I got a couple of pictures with it and then caught it, put it in a Walmart bag, and brought it home! We fought Randall the snake with Fluffy and now Fluffy is dead and we have a pet snake! Or I mean a captive snake... Just kidding! I didn't even go near the snake cuz I'm not stupid and didn't feel like getting bit. But that would have been a pretty cool story!

We taught Patricia and three of her granddaughters earlier in the week. They are pretty sweet girls. We talked about doing random acts of service and the importance of serving others. The girls really enjoyed it and they told us about times they've done acts of service and when they've seen others do them. It was a pretty good lesson. At the end Patricia was trying to get one of them to pray but we got something even better! We got all three of them AND Patricia to pray! It was pretty sweet! Haha! The girls were pretty uncomfortable with praying, so we taught them how to pray.  I started and we went around in a circle and everyone said a little prayer. It was pretty sweet!

This week was really, really good! I had a good time and got to interact with all sorts of Globe’s wild life! And we taught some pretty great lessons too! Hopefully we can get a few more new investigators to start teaching. We've been focusing a ton of our efforts on finding people to teach but haven't been having a lot of success. We'll get some success eventually though! I love the scripture Alma 26:27 Now when our hearts were depressed, and we were about to turn back, behold the Lord comforted us and said, Go amongst thine brethren the Lamanites, and bear with patience thine afflictions, and I will give unto you success. It's definitely a very true scripture. As we go forward with patience the Lord gives us success. Have a great week everyone!

Love,
