Miraculous Floods

Hey everyone!

This week was actually really good!  We didn't teach a lot of new people, but we did have some good lessons.   AND!  We found someone else to teach!   I don't know that she'll be baptized any time soon because she can't make it to church.  We saw a couple of miracles that were awesome this week too.   We went on an adventure that turned into a lot longer one than expected.

I'll start off with the first of two big miracles that we saw this week.  The first one was after basketball on Thursday.  Basketball was really good and the teams were super balanced, so that was great!  As a result Elder Jencks and I both got really thirsty.  Circle K has 79 cent drinks that are HUGE!  So we went there to buy drinks.  The lady that was working there asked if we were Mormons.  She told us that she used to be Jewish, but that she now believes in Jesus and has been thinking about converting to our church.  She said that she had a few friends that were LDS and that they talked to her a little bit about the things we believe.  She asked us for some literature, so we gave her a Book of Mormon and a Restoration pamphlet.  When we asked if we could come to her home and teach her sometime she told us that she was never at home, but that she really appreciated the literature.  She also said that she is trying to get Sunday off so that she could start going to church.  That would be sweet if we were able to teach her!  Maybe one day.  We definitely will be going back to that Circle K every time to follow up with her.

The other miracle we had that was pretty sweet was meeting a lady named Dawn.  She's a hospice nurse for one of the elderly people in the ward who can't make it to church.  We went over there to visit Sister Sanders.  We met Dawn and she thought that Mormons were devil worshipping polygamists before she met Sister Sanders.  It was kind of funny. We were able to talk a little about our basic beliefs.  Sister Sanders asked if we could come to bring her the sacrament the next day rather than the young men.  We said sure!  When we went over to give it to her she was so happy to see us.   Dawn loved that a couple of young men would be willing to come and do that for her on the weekend.  She found out that we did this work 7 days a week and she just about died!  Haha! Then she found out we weren't being paid for it and that we were actually paying to be able to be on a mission.  Man, you should have seen the look on her face. She thinks that we're the greatest guys ever!  We will be going by on Tuesday to teach Dawn the Restoration, so that will be great.  Unfortunately, she has to be with Sister Sanders pretty much at all times, so I don't know that she'll be able to make it to church, but we'll see. It would be pretty cool if she did make it.  She seems pretty interested in it, so that will be great!

Now for our adventure!  We had a dinner cancelation, so we decided to go out and explore our area since we had a ton of miles and we had a giant lunch. We headed up to the Pinal Mountains and found a dirt road we hadn't driven before. We headed down this hill and wow... It was rocky... like three wheels on the ground rocky.  (Jayden mentioned when he moved to Globe they were given a jeep)  It was kind of scary.  We navigated it well enough that, believe it or not, we never once bottomed out.   We kept going and going and going and eventually it smoothed out a little bit. Soon 6:00 came.  It was dinner time and we weren’t anywhere close to a place where we could get out and head back into Globe.  We couldn't turn around because there is no way I have the skills to drive up something like that.  It was hard enough coming down, but I can't imagine controlling the gas going up.  We just kept going.  The road was very washed out.  It was pretty crazy.   We looked up and you know what happened?  A storm was coming in…a big one. We were getting kind of worried because we knew that the second it started to storm the roads would become muddy and they would be impossible to drive through.   We did what any good missionary would do.  We stepped out of the car with courage and faith, stood and looked to the storm, rain drops falling on our face with the menacing storm moving quickly toward us.  The wind was howling and the thunder was loud.  We raised our hands up to the sky and commanded it and the winds to cease!  Just kidding... BUT!  We did say a prayer that we would be able to find some asphalt soon. We kept going and going and going and the raindrops started.  We came to a fork in the road where we could either go left or right.  We prayed about it and decided to take a left.  We ended up in a little, tiny community right next to the highway and were able to make it out before it rained.  And let me tell you... It rained!  I mean, roads were flooding, the flood zones were flooded, the windshield wipers barely worked fast enough.  It was just insane! The Lord definitely blessed us to get out of there when we did.  It was probably within a half hour we saw how bad that could have turned out.  Unfortunately, we made a stupid mistake, but the Lord was kind enough to have mercy on us.

Well, that was my week!  I hope you all have a great one too!  School’s started up again I've heard, so that's exciting for everyone.  Good luck with everything!

Love,

Elder Mullins
