Dear family and friends,
This week was a pretty good one. We did quite a few
things in our area in preparation for the Easter pageant which is coming up
this week. We want to use it as a tool as much as possible and so we've been finding
investigators or less actives that want to go. We also want to go and we can't
unless we have a recent convert, less active, or investigator with us.
Early in the week we were going through our area book which
is super unorganized. We were trying to
clear it up so it is a lot better for future missionaries. We had a potential
investigator in there named Joanne and we went by. It was getting a little bit
later in the evening and usually we are starting to prepare for people getting
mad for us knocking so late. Although, Joanne
recognized us instantly as Mormon missionaries and let us in. Apparently a
couple decades ago, she and her daughter took the discussions and her daughter
ultimately ended up being baptized. She told us up front she probably wasn't
going to get baptized but that she'd like to study with us. We sat down with
her and read from the Book of Mormon, which was great. Joanne reads through the
Bible every year and she seriously knows it so well. She's taught us quite a
few things about different passages in the Bible that I had no clue about! It's
been awesome getting to know her and being able to teach her and learn from
her.
It's great! It was funny. Later in the week when we went
by again at the end of it she was like, "Huh, it sounds like we believe
all the same things. I wonder what we believe differs?" She has read the
Bible so many times and knows it so deeply that as we read from the Book of
Mormon and teach her the discussions she makes different connections and has a
lot of her different questions answered. She'll every once in a while say
something like, "Oh! That makes sense now!" Or "I've always
wondered why this said that." It's been awesome! She even came to church
and stayed for all three hours of it! It was so awesome. She's around 70 and is seriously like the
nicest person in the world. She's great!
We also found another new investigator on Sunday! It was
great! The Hermanas sent us a text telling us to go by a lady named Hope's
house and meet her. She reminds me so much of a lady I taught in AJ named
Alisha. I seriously almost called her Alisha a few times. She told us that she
had watched a documentary on different faiths and the differences between them
and their doctrines and teachings. She told us that the Mormon church was the
church that had the most converts per year and it made her think that she wants
to look more into the Church. That was about a month ago, but it kind of
slipped into the back of her mind for a while and she told us that all of a
sudden two lady missionaries came up to her and talked to her a little bit. She
said that she thinks it's some kind of sign from God. We told her that God
definitely doesn't work in coincidences. We'll be meeting with her later in the
week. We probably will end up taking her to the Easter Pageant as well this
week. That'll be great!
Over the weekend we had a priest from West Mesa staying
with us to do a three-day mini mission to experience what mission life is like.
His name was Tommy. We pulled a great prank on him! Elders Renel and Shirley,
our roommates, are the ones Tommy was companions with, so we told them to text
us his name as soon as they picked him up. When we got the name we went to the
church building, got onto Facebook, looked for him, found him, and printed out
a picture of him, rushed back the apartment, and thumbtacked it to the wall. When
they came back for the evening Elder Shirley saw it and had to go into the back
room because he was laughing so hard. He seriously died for about 15 minutes. Tommy was like, "Where the
heck did this come from?" He hadn't even known us for three hours and we
had a picture of him hanging on the wall. It was seriously the funniest thing
in the world!
Not much else really happened this week. I had a great
time with Elder Edwards and we got some good work done! It was fantastic. I
hope you all have a great week!
Love,
Elder Mullins
