Dear family and friends,
This week was phenomenal! Monday and Tuesday were pretty
sad, because I had to say bye to everyone, but oh well. I went and said bye to
the Haverlands. Sister Haverland was at work, so I went to where she works to
say bye. She works in a dance studio and was just doing costumes that night, so
we could visit. It was so funny; her daughter who is 7 absolutely loves me for
whatever reason. She was in the dance studio at the time. She spotted me
through the glass, sprinted out, and gave me a great big hug and said she
didn't know I was still here! It was so sad to have to tell her that I was
leaving the next day. She was pretty disappointed. She had thought I'd changed
my mind about leaving.
Wednesday was transfer day. I said bye to Elder Welch and
got Elder Murray. He's a pretty relaxed guy. He's probably the easiest
companion I've had to get along with. It's so nice! He's hilarious too! He says
some of the funniest things I've ever heard. His voice is super monotone and
lacks enthusiasm generally, so when he wants to express an emotion he'll state
the emotion. Say I throw something at him:
Instead of saying, "Ow! What the heck man? That
hurt!" He just says very simply and calmly and in his monotone voice,
"Pain..." Or he'll get mad at his iPad and say something along the
lines of, "I hate you iPad. Shut up. I will punch you in the face."
It's hysterical! I laugh all day long with him. He's added quite the repertoire
to my sense of humor. I love telling really stupid jokes to dissipate
awkwardness, like how many psychiatrists does it take to change a light bulb?
Just one, but the lightbulb has to want to change. With this newfound form of
humor though, things are so much greater! We can't really use it around people
we don't know because they think we’re weird, but around people I know really
well I can have them in stitches in a second! Sometimes... The secret is just
saying the cruelest things to inanimate objects in the blandest and most
insincere voice possible. Anyway, enough
about Elder Murray's sense of humor.
We are covering three wards now and one of them we are
whitewashing. Whitewashing is when both
missionaries are taken out and two brand new ones are put in. So we basically
know just about nothing about Hampton Ward. It's pretty intense. Going to
church was interesting. Unfortunately,
we can't quite make it to every sacrament meeting covering so many wards and
having two separate buildings. Something really weird about our area is we
cover Crescent and Patterson wards which touch each other, but then there's
Hampton Ward which is about 5 miles west of Crescent/Patterson. It's really
odd. We have to leave our area to get to the rest of our area.
Not much is really going on right now in the area, but
that will change! We only have a few investigators, so we'll be focusing a lot
on finding. I'm excited to get the area moving! Elder Murray and I are going to
be super-duper extra hard working for sure! It's his last transfer, so I'll be
killing him. He seems like he's going to work super hard to the end of his
mission!
I'm excited for Christmas and New Years! It'll be
awesome! I also broke my iPad a couple of days ago, so I'm getting the screen
replaced. I have holes in it and stuff, so that's pretty cool. Hopefully it'll
be repaired fairly quickly. I'm hoping to get it back before Christmas, but
we'll see what happens. I'll probably Skype around 10:30. I'll call and let you
know if I have Skype or not. Hopefully I'll have a working iPad. Have a very
merry Christmas!
Love,
Elder Mullins
