Dear family and friends,
This week was a pretty good one! Toward the end it was
pretty annoying with a few things going on, but other than that it was fine. As I've been serving here in Globe I've
realized a few things that I've never really recognized before. There are a few people we are working with
that are in really rough spots in their lives. I mean, it's incredible what is going on with
some of them. As we have been teaching and
visiting them and giving them encouragement to keep on going, I've realized
that some of these people have changed their lives. I’ve never felt like I was making such a
difference as I have lately. I know the
gospel changes lives, but I've never recognized how much it did. I've seen people who were in despair, not even
knowing if life was worth living, who decide to meet with us. After meeting with us and they find meaning
and hope through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. I've had people tell me I've saved their
lives. I've helped people get away from
drugs. I've helped people who were not
good people in the past become great. I'm
so grateful for the message of the gospel and for the Atonement of Jesus Christ
which makes change possible.
We visited with Dawn a couple of times this week. The
first time she was just fine. Things were really looking up for her and she was
super excited that everything had panned out. Unfortunately the trials then
came. She had lots of stuff happen for
about three days straight. It was really
surprising to see how many things had happened in those three days. When we went over the second time we knocked
on the door once, no answer, twice no answer, three times, no answer. As we turned around to go back to the car she
pulled in! Her was locked and she didn't have a key, so that was kind of bad.
Fortunately for her, I have some mad break in skills! I was able to get into
her door without any problems. It was actually kind of scary how easy it
was. Anyone could have gotten in. We went in and talked to her for a while and
it was an awesome lesson! We had prepared a lesson, but we scrapped it and talked
about life. We taught several points of
the plan of salvation and the Restoration of the gospel. Then we talked about how some of the most
powerful prayers we can say are prayers of thanks. At the end she prayed and gave nothing but
thanks. The spirit was so powerful. It was a total miracle that we were able to
catch her right as she got home. She really needed it.
Elder Wheeler and I had a party of a time when we went on
exchanges this week. He came to Globe
with me and it was super fun! He's got an incredible story. He's had a pretty
rough life. He has 22 siblings... His
dad made some bad mistakes and ended up with a pretty rough life. As a result
Elder Wheeler didn't have a bed, or toothbrush, or a lot of other things he
really should have had until he was 11 when his brother decided to take care of
him. He's had a really rough life, but
things have turned around for him. I
would tell you his entire story, but I don't know it well enough and I'd hate
to say things that aren't true. Anyway,
we had a good time. We had dinner with the Folau family, which was awesome! They're Tongan and Mexican, so you know they have
good food! We had ribs, fish, potatoes,
and this super good spicy corn, and all sorts of other stuff! It was delicious! We went and visited Patrick and Chelcee. It was a pretty good lesson.
We got a text from Chelcee on Saturday saying Patrick had
a crash on his bicycle. He smashed his
face and was helicoptered to Scottsdale for medical attention. She didn’t have time for a lesson. Despite
all that she showed up to church the next day, which was awesome! We got a text a while after church saying
they would be back by 7:00 and we could come over. When she said he smashed his
face I assumed it would be pretty bad, but when I saw him... Holy cow! I won't even describe it for you. It was bad. He had several
dozen stitches, lots of swelling, and a broken nose. Imagine that, and then multiply it by about ten. That's about how bad he looked. He's worried
it won't heal properly and he'll have a jacked up face the rest of his life,
but the doctors told him that in six months he won’t be able to tell that he'd
had any cuts on his face. So that's
good. We gave him a blessing, which was
great. The spirit was strong. Chelcee also asked us to come back today and
set a date for her to be baptized! It's
gonna be so awesome! We are pumped for that!
Elder Welch and I are getting along great together! It's
been fun so far! I’ve been lucky to have
great companions.
On Thursday there was a tragedy in the mission. All the area books stopped working. We have our area books on our iPads. When our security systems on our iPads had an
update, for some reason, it didn't have the church's enterprise apps trusted,
so the area book went down. It wasn't fixed until today. Our area book has our
schedule, people's addresses and phone numbers, teaching records, maps, and pretty
much anything you could possibly need to run an area. It was pretty difficult because we cover an
entire city, but it was alright. We made do and just ran the area by memory. It was intense.
That was my week! I hope you all a have a great week! Have fun! Be safe! Remember who you are.
Don't let that get you down...ha ha!
Love,
Elder Mullins
