Uneventful, but enjoyable

Dear family and friends,

This week was good, but pretty uneventful. We didn't teach many lessons.  We really just knocked on a ton of doors without people answering. One exciting thing that we did was teach Patricia again!
We taught her about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and then invited her to be baptized. She accepted the invitation and has an interview set up for next Monday! Yay! It'll be so exciting to see her be baptized.
She's seriously so prepared I can hardly believe it. I have never taught someone so prepared as her. She's definitely the most golden person I've ever had the opportunity to teach. She is worried that she doesn't know enough yet, but we assured her that she definitely does.  We went over the baptismal interview questions with her and she was able to answer most of them, so that just means we need to go over a couple of things. We'll get everything taught to her by Sunday evening so she can have her interview on Monday. It'll be awesome!

A little bit later in the week we had a lesson with Trevor.  We watched the movie “Joseph Smith: Prophet of the Restoration” with him. He thought it was a great movie. If you haven't seen it I would highly recommend it.  I learned a lot about the life of Joseph Smith when I watched it.  It was pretty good!  I only have seen it one other time at the very beginning of my mission, so it was good to see again. Trevor learned a lot about Joseph Smith.  We talked about living prophets and their importance to us today. He enjoyed the lesson and received it well.  It was funny, at the end of the lesson he challenged us to a game of air hockey. We didn't have time, so we set up a time to come play air hockey with him tomorrow. It'll be exciting! Haha! He's such an awesome kid.  I've never met such a polite 17 year old.

This week I taught the elders in my apartment how to make bull whips. We all went out and bought paracord about three weeks ago, and we finally got around to making them! It was pretty interesting trying to teach everyone how to do it, but it's been fun.  We almost are done with them; probably just a few more hours to go! I'll include a few pictures in this email. They're coming along great. Out here in Globe there's really nothing to do, so P-days usually just consist of us and the San Carlos Elders all just hanging out in our apartment after we go shopping and all that jazz. It's pretty much boring… It's super relaxed though, so it's great to just be able to get your mind off of things and visit with people.  Making whips definitely gives us something to do.  It's great!

I talked a little bit about knocking on a whole bunch of doors.  We got a part member family list.  There are a TON of names on it.  Right now, since we aren't really teaching anyone, we have just been spending our afternoons going from name to name to name, and knocking on doors. There was a point earlier in the week that I began to feel pretty discouraged because, literally, not one door we had knocked on answered for three days in a row. It was pretty frustrating. I was able to get over it and have a better attitude about this list toward at end of the week though.  We did eventually get a couple of people to answer and they told us that they weren't interested, so no success quite yet, but hopefully next week!

Oh yah!  I totally forgot about this story!  We were with our ward mission leader, Brother Allen, on Tuesday night.   We went to knock on a potential investigator’s door, but there was a fence in front of it and it was pad locked.  There was a gate to the side yard, pad locked.  There was a gate to the back yard, pad locked.  Then there was a fence, inside the fence all the way around the house, double pad locked. Obviously they didn't want people in there, but since we were invited to come over by him through a media referral we got about three months ago, we decided to go talk to his neighbor and see if they knew anything about him.  It turns out the neighbor is a lady we tried getting ahold of earlier in the month that bishop wanted us to talk to.  The only problem was, there was no address... Anyway, we knocked and it was Connie!  Wow!  What a miracle!   It turns out the neighbor over there died, but his son had come up to take care of the house for a few months before it could be sold.  The son was the one that was referred to us.  She told us that about a month ago a few cops showed up at her house asking her if she knew where Eligio was.  She said she hadn't seen him in about two months even though his car was still in the car port and that he could be laying there dead for all she knew. Well, guess what? He was lying there dead... He was diabetic and he was feeling low, so he went to get himself some orange juice before he passed out, went into a coma, and then passed away. That was a pretty crazy story ! But yah... That's why the house is all locked up. Connie is a member, but she isn't active. She said that she would be more than happy to have us come over and teach her and visit with her. I think she's pretty lonely, so having visitors would be great for her!

That's pretty much what my week consisted of.   Not a lot of exciting things really. I hope you all have a wonderful week! Keep being good. I've been enjoying it out here and can't imagine a better place for me to be right now than in the service of the Lord.

Love,
