Dear family and friends!
I forgot last week to tell you about my transfer news. We
both are staying. I have a sneaking suspicion that we'll probably be together
until the beginning of November, but we'll find out in 5 weeks or so.
This week was amazing! At the beginning of the week Elder
Jencks and I sat down and planned out our visions, goals, and plans for the
transfer. We decided to have our focus
be centered on exact obedience. We both are fairly obedient missionaries and
don't do anything too bad, but obedience is obedience. You either are, or you
aren't. We made the goals and plans necessary to be able to become exactly
obedient missionaries. We found out
really quickly what our biggest weaknesses were. We both struggle with the
rule, "Avoid inappropriately casual language." We definitely use all
sorts of euphemisms and slang. It's kind of funny to hear the things we say,
now that we're aware of it. We've been getting a lot better! You should see us
when we're about to say one and we catch ourselves. We stumble over about 4
other replacement words before we find an appropriate one. It's pretty humorous
at times! There are a few other smaller rules that we found that we don't
follow super well, but we are getting there. Perfection is a process for sure.
As a result of our obedience, the Lord blessed us
immensely with miracles! It was so neat to see the things that were happening. On Tuesday evening we went over to one of our
investigators homes to teach the Plan of Salvation. We weren't able to get in
contact with Patricia at all last week, so we were crossing our fingers that we
would be able to find her. We did find her Tuesday! It turns out the Plan of
Salvation was exactly what she needed to hear. The reason we couldn't find her
is because she went up to the four corners area to attend her brother’s
funeral. She was pretty upset over the whole thing and was definitely putting
her trust in Christ's Atonement to heal from her sorrow. There is no doubt in my mind that as she
prayed for that comfort the Lord planned it out perfectly for us to go and
teach her His plan. When we began to teach the lesson I felt the impressions of
the Spirit so strongly I could hardly believe the words coming out of my mouth.
I usually stumble over my words and grasp for what to say next, but the promise
that the Spirit will give you in the very hour the words you should say was
fulfilled. It was incredible to see the power with which both Elder Jencks and
I taught. The Spirit was super powerful and it testified right to Pat's heart
that our words were true.
I don't have a lot of time to email today, so I'll just
share one or two more of the biggest miracles we were a part of this week. You all might remember Keith who we street
contacted about three weeks ago. He was the one that we ran into while we were
walking and his car was broken down. Keith
gave us his address, but it was a trailer park with 100+ trailers in it. Yah,
there was no way we would ever find him. So we thought... and decided to go
knock on a potential investigator’s door who we still have yet to get in
contact with after knocking who knows how many times. We decided to go for the umpteenth time and
see if she was home. No answer... We turned away wondering what we would do
next since she was the last person on our list to visit and we still had two
hours before dinner. As we turned to walk down the stairs of her porch, you
would never believe who we saw. Keith! What?! Haha! It was so crazy! He walked around the corner and I said
something like, "Keith! How are you?" We went over and talked to him
for a little while. He told us about how
he still had the Book of Mormon that we gave him in his car. He hadn't read any
of it yet, but he said that he hoped to see us again soon. We weren't able to
set up a return appointment with him, but now we know where he lives. Since he said he hoped to see us again, we
assume that meant, "come share a message with me." So yah! We totally got back into contact with Keith! That was probably one of my most favorite
miracles this week. I thought we had totally
lost him and that we probably wouldn't find him again, but nope! The Lord had
other plans in mind. Hopefully we can start teaching him this week or the next.
He is such a cool guy and although he doesn't have much of a belief in God, he
definitely is open to the idea of there being a God. I know he'll pray and the
Holy Ghost will testify that there is a God to him.
For the rest of the week we didn't experience any giant
miracles like that, but we did have a lot of little ones. I had a lot of
personal growth and my testimony of obedience has increased immensely. I'm sure it will continue to grow throughout
the rest of my mission since after seeing the blessing of this week I never
want to forfeit those. I know that obedience to the commandments is something
that Heavenly Father commends and as a result He will bless anyone that lives
in accordance with His commandments with exactness. The Church is true. If you
don't attend your church meetings, do it. It is intimidating to go back to
something you left behind, but I promise that you will begin to see the
blessings flow in your life. If there is
anything in your life that needs to change, change it. Today. Have
a wonderful week everyone!
Love,
Elder Mullins
