I love being on a mission!!! I have been learning so much and will definitely
learn much more. I've only been out about a month and a half, but I have
learned more in these 6 weeks than I have in all the rest of my life.
Conference was amazing. I have never before appreciated it really. I would sit
and watch, but I wouldn't listen. I did not appreciate the knowledge of the men
and women that stood up there to give us counsel. I absolutely loved so much of
it and I took a lot of notes. I loved the second speaker of the whole thing, I
can't remember his name at the moment, but he asked, "Which way do you face? Do
you face Satan or the Father and Our Savior, Jesus Christ? Do you fear man more
than God?" I loved how he asked so many questions through his talk. It is
important for us to build trust with other people. We need to be kind and
trustworthy always. This does not mean however, that we do not report it to our
mission president when our companion is breaking serious rules. This may be
viewed as a form of a betrayal of trust, but remember that you did it out of
love. You shouldn't be afraid to 'tell on' someone just because you don't want
them getting into trouble. The odds are, that if what your doing is right, you
are not hurting, but helping them. Another talk that I really enjoyed was Dallin H. Oaks' talk about religious freedom and loving everyone as Christ did. Just
because we do not support gay marriage, does not mean that we do not respect
them. When we don't respect another's personal beliefs it is the exact same as when
others don't respect ours, calling us bigots and fanatics. We need to disagree
without being disagreeable. Another thing he talked about that I absolutely
loved was when he flat out said 'Parents, far too often people are
offended because Mormon parents won't let their kids play with theirs just
because of differing religious views'. You should not let someone's religious
beliefs affect your decision on whether or not your kids can hang out with
other children. One of the elders in my apartment loved that too. Apparently he
was teaching a lesson to an investigator with a member present at the lesson. A
concern that came up was the investigator said, 'I love the church. Everything
about it is awesome! I only have one concern. Mormons isolated my children from
their kids because we weren't Mormon'. Elder Foulger told her that that isn't
taught by the church and is wrong. The member spoke up though and said 'ya, um
actually the church does teach that'. The investigator said good bye and never
come back again. The church doesn't teach that! That is not Christlike at all. That is flat out prejudice and hatred!
*This is Mom: Jayden sent photos, but they didn't come through. His descriptions sound great. Hopefully his next attempt sending them will be successful.
This week went really well! We didn't get any new investigators or anything like that, but it was good! We talked to a lot of members and had a great time! It's hard out here, but it is so worth it! I have never in my life been so devoted to the gospel! I love you all and hope to hear from all of you! My address is:
