This week was a lot better than last week! I was getting kind
of discouraged, but I've been in a lot better mood now! I don't know why, I
just am! This week we didn't really make very much progress. We got to
know the ward a little better, but no new investigators or anything. We've been
teaching the Quesadas who are just inactive members who don't know the first
thing about the church. We asked them if they knew who Joseph Smith was
and they said no, so ya... that's fun. Then we have the kids from the Congo.
It's interesting, because in the Congo the parents choose your last name based
on how you were as a child, so everybody has a different name. They don't have
family names, so we don't even know how to refer to them. We usually just say
Francine's because she's the oldest, but really there's no good way of addressing
them. They are always super fun! Oh, mom, they loved the candy by the way! They
did everything within their power to just completely raid my bag! Haha! It's
sad though because these kids are super super into the gospel and love the
church! They look forward to going to church every single week and come
diligently! Their parents won't let them get baptized though... Cedric
continues to tease us about his age. He says he is 18 so that he doesn't need his
parents consent, but I don't think he's going to squeeze past us that easy! Haha, they're just super awesome kids!
Something that was super awesome and super funny was while
we were visiting them last night! We were over there just sharing a little
message with them and Jonathan, who is 5, got distracted and started wandering,
as you would expect any 5 year old kid to do when he's outside watching
something he doesn't really feel like watching. So I went over to him to hang
out with him a bit and keep him out of the road or whatever, and was just talking
to him. We had to leave for another appointment with a member though so I shook
his hand and he looked up at me and said the cutest and funniest thing ever! He
made a really serious face, looked me in the eye, and pointed with his other
hand right at me with his head cocked, and said in his awesome Congo accent,
"You better say yo prayers!" Hahaha!
Whether we are going through the hard times and we're
stressing out, or life is great and we're having fun, remember that "You
better say yo prayers!" in the words of Jonathan! It's a commandment to
pray always and to remember the Lord in all of your doings! (Alma 37:36-37,
Colossians 3:23)
I love it out here! It's great! It's finally beginning to
cool off a little bit! The high for today was only 88! Last week it was over
100 a few times! Hopefully it stays this cool though! I love you all and hope
to hear from you! have a wonderful week!
Love,
Elder Mullins!
