Dear
family and friends,
This
week was pretty good. I haven't been feeling very well all week, but that's
alright. We worked as hard as we could through it. We got quite a bit done actually! One of the best things that happened was
teaching our new investigator, Jason.
Jason has no religious background but has suddenly taken an interest in
religion and God. He's recovering from some addictions. In an addiction recovery program, they teach
that the only way you will ever overcome your addiction is by believing in a
higher power; whether that high power be God or a door knob. You can't quit
without the help of that higher power. That door knob is stronger than the
addict because it doesn't have those struggles.
Jason sees his higher power as being a God. He expressed this interest
to his grandmother and she referred him to us. I don't know how well he will
progress with his addictions and the consequences that come with those
addictions, but we love teaching him. It's so neat to see him learn and experience
the sweet peace the gospel offers. We
met with him for the first time last week. We taught the message of the Restoration, and
we taught him how to pray. He prayed and did a beautiful job. He committed to read a few verses out of the
Book of Mormon.
This
week when we went to teach him he told us about this strange thing that keeps
happening to him whenever he does the things we told him to do or visits with
us. He said he gets chills on the back of his neck and goosebumps and also gets
this feeling of assurance, peace, and serenity. When we told him that it was
the Holy Ghost he was shocked. He said he never thought he was good enough to
feel the Holy Ghost or anything like that. He's pretty great to teach! He just gets it. I've never taught someone with no religious
background that understood things with such ease. He's prepared for sure.
Hopefully he doesn't give into the temptations of Satan and fall back into old
habits. I've seen it happen too many
times and I couldn't bear to see that happen to him too.
Earlier
in the week we got to go to the temple! It was awesome! I love the temple and all the blessings that
come from temple worship. I learn
something new every time. It was
difficult to focus all day long because of being sick, but when I got inside
the temple, all my symptoms disappeared. It allowed me to go through, and then my
favorite part, sit in the celestial room. It was great! I've never seen more love than in that room
packed full of 60 missionaries.
After
our session we got to go to a mission Christmas lunch/party. That was pretty great! They had taco salad for the main dish. I got to sit next to President Jenkins during
lunch. That was pretty good. Some other missionaries around the table made
things somewhat awkward. One elder said
something that wasn't the greatest thing ever to say. He was just trying to be funny, but President
was kind of looking at him like, "Really?" Then he just kept trying to make up for it and
it just kept getting worse and worse and worse and worse. Oh man! It was kind
of bad how deep of a hole he dug for himself. It was so big that I fell in part of the way
myself! Haha! Hopefully President doesn't think too little
of me at this point...
Transfers
are already coming up! If you're sending
me letters or packages, make sure that they are sent to
2525
N. 32nd St.
Mesa,
AZ 85213
It's
looking like I will be staying one more transfer in Globe, but we will see. Who knows what will happen. I'd say it's only about a 70% chance I'll
stay, so it'll be interesting. Next week I'll be able to tell you what all is
happening. Have a great week everyone! I love you all!
Love,
