Dear family and friends!
This week was absolutely
fantastic! We had some great lessons and are really making some great progress
in the Globe wards! The first thing I
have to inform you of is that, sadly, Ms. Charlotte passed away. She was an
older lady that we used to go visit all the time. She absolutely loved us. Her
care taker, Dawn, is one of our investigators, and she was absolutely
devastated. It's a really sad situation. Elder Jencks and I are saying the
prayers at Ms. Charlotte’s funeral, so that will be nice. We went and visited
Dawn one evening earlier in the week right after this happened. She was crying and felt really bad. She felt
like it was her fault that Charlotte had passed away. We assured her it was
just her time to go, but she kept talking about how she could have done
something better; maybe adjusted her meds, or given her better oxygen levels,
or something. It was really sad. We
finally talked about how she felt like it was her fault and acknowledged it.
After we did that things were fine. We taught her about the Plan of Salvation
and really focused on the Atonement. When we got to the Atonement I was able to
teach it. I have never felt so strongly the Spirit filling my mouth with words.
I had learned something new about the Atonement literally a half hour before, as
I was studying. After I explained the events of the Atonement I got to the
effects of the Atonement, why it was necessary, and what it does for us. We talked
about how it gives us strength to forgive ourselves and to forgive others. It
allows us to be forgiven of our sins. It heals us from the scars caused by the
sins of others or ourselves. As we have faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement
we can become better people in every aspect, and we can make changes. I then
told her what I learned. In one of his final articles, Elder Packer taught that
there is no pain that hurts worse than the pain that he feels when he learns
that he has hurt another. Dawn definitely felt like she had hurt another. He
then went on to explain that it is in these instances when we are able to catch
just a brief glimpse of what Christ went through for us. When we are in times
of stress, anxiety, pain, sadness, and sorrow, it allows us to gain a small
amount of understanding as to what He did for us and it allows us to develop a
greater appreciation for the atonement.
I love that because of Jesus Christ we can be redeemed, enabled, and
healed. I’ve been focusing a lot of my
studies on the Atonement over the last several months and it’s been incredible
to see all there is to learn about it. I
am constantly learning more each time I read and apply what I've learned.
Destiny is making some awesome
progress! The Allen family brought her over to their house to be taught a few
days ago. It was a great lesson! We taught the gospel of Jesus Christ to her. I
have never taught a lesson in a member home. That was the very first time. It
was amazing to teach her there too because we were able to ask the Allen family
questions and let them testify and teach a lot of the things we were teaching.
The thing I think I liked the most was when we asked their two youngest boys,
who are in primary, if they knew the fourth article of faith. I knew they did
since I watched them sing it in the primary program just a few weeks ago. They
stood up and were able to recite it! "We believe that the first principles
and ordinances of the gospel are first, faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, second
repentance, third baptism by immersion for the remission of sins, fourth laying
of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost." Then we talked all about that!
Their daughter was able to teach her about the sacrament too. It was great to
teach that lesson. Destiny will be
baptized on November 7th! Oh, guess
what? Next transfer is going to be the
greatest ever! We'll have Destiny
baptized on the 7th, Pat on the 14th, Monty on the 21st, and Dawn on the 28th!
We will baptize weekly! I've never done
that before, so that will be super exciting!
I also got some really good
news a few weeks ago that I keep forgetting to tell you about. Daymian, from
Apache Junction, got baptized! He's such an awesome kid! He's 14 years
old. We had been meeting with him since
February. I found out about it and I’m really
excited. I am so glad that he was baptized. I hope he is able to serve a
mission. That would be legit!
We went to the Miami Elders’
baptism with our investigator Rowie. She really enjoyed it. The thing that was
really cool though was we met a guy there named Monty that the Miami Elders
have been teaching. He has a baptismal date for the 21st of November. He will
be moving to Globe in the next few weeks, so that's going to be super exciting
to start teaching him. He's super excited about the gospel! He's 22 years old
and loves the missionaries! We're so excited about it.
I hope you all have a great
week! I love you all! It's been an awesome week and I love every
second of my mission. The work is starting to pick up like crazy. I feel almost
like I'm back in Apache Junction again with how busy we are. It's great! I love
the gospel and I'm enjoying the work!
Love,
Elder Mullins
