This has been an awesome week! Elder Sweeten has been
pretty sick, so we've been going out around noon and returning shortly after
dinner for him to sleep. We are finally going to the doctor today, so that'll
be good. He has a pretty bad sinus/ear infection right now, and he has been
insisting that it'll just go away. It's
been about a week half now and our member we had dinner with last night finally
basically called the mission nurse for him. Haha! So yah... We have to call Dr.
Green now and get an appointment set up with him this morning. So if it seems
like we did nothing this week, it's because we didn't.
Last Monday was a pretty relaxed P-day. I practiced
trumpet for a half hour before I felt like my lips were going to fall off and
run away. Then we washed the car, and
then did pretty much nothing. Elder Sweeten and I spent a lot of time just
hanging out in the apartment, so yah! That was a party!
Tuesday was a little bit of a rough day... Elder Sweeten
gets stressed pretty easily I think. Whenever there's something that goes
contrary to plan or if he doesn't know what’s going to happen he gets pretty stressed. Tuesday, Jim dropped us, which was really sad
because he was progressing so rapidly. Then Eric slammed the door in our
faces... He was a new investigator that was just starting to progress. Then
Floyd wasn't home when he said he would be, so that was lame. After that we
contacted a potential investigator, and they told us they weren't interested
any more. After all that disappointment, we went to the car shop to replace our
brakes. We went in at 3:00 and it took 2 1/2 hours to replace them. It was kind of annoying that they just put us
on the back burner and got to it when it was convenient... So yah. That made us
a half hour late to our dinner appointment. After dinner we went over to Daymian’s house
and found out that he's grounded, so that's why it's been so hard for us to get
in contact with him.
Wednesday was good. We had a district meeting in the
morning which was awesome! After district meeting we went over to Randy's and
got the program for his baptism on Saturday all squared away. We also went to
mutual that night and had a party! They were working on their personal fitness
merit badge. Elder Sweeten and I had a pushup contest and he won with 53
pushups in a minute... I got 52... :( so that was lame!
Thursday we did a ton of service! We went to a place
called Brainfood in the morning. We made about 2,500 sack lunches for children
who can't afford food over the weekend. This week’s the lunches were WAY more
heavy! They put between 9 and 12 sacks in each tote and my job was to carry
them out to the dollies so that others could load them into cars and trucks. I
was pretty dang sore the next day! After Brainfood we went to the Vanwambeck’s
to help them organize their stuff for a yard sale. It seriously was like 2
acres of just JUNK! It wasn't gross or anything, it was just stuff that nobody
would ever want. I did find a book from 1897 in there though, so that was
pretty cool. When we left we offered to
buy a mini fridge that they had and they told us we could just have it! When we
got it home it worked!!! It was awesome! I'm excited about it! Haha! It's
totally impractical and there’s no point to it, but it's just fun to have. That
night we had an AWESOME lesson with the Hodges’. Jimmy has been investigating the church for 17
years. We decided that the reason he isn't baptized yet is because he doesn't
know where he is. So, when we went over, we asked him all of the baptismal
interview questions and then at the end told him that if he knew all of those
he was ready for baptism. We found out there were only a couple of things they
haven't been taught before, so we will be teaching those things next time we go
over. Jimmy had a question. “What is the difference between the Church
and general Christianity?” I listened to
the Spirit and felt like he needed to read Tad R. Callister's talk, "What
is the Blueprint of Christ's Church?" I read it that night and, holy smokes, that
talk is perfect! He had a few other specific questions that I didn't know the
answer to that were answered perfectly in that talk!
I'm thinking Jimmy will be baptized in the next couple of
months. We'll see what happens!
Friday nothing much happened. We stayed home pretty much
all day because Elder Sweeten was sick. We went into Mesa at 4:00 to turn in
some papers to the mission office and then we went to the Easter Pageant. We saved some seats for a member’s
brother-in-law who is a non-member. We went to dinner and then came back. We
sat and visited with the people all around us until it started, so that was
pretty fun! The pageant was pretty good.
I wouldn't go see it every single
night, but it was good!
Saturday was awesome! We had a baptism! Randy has been
investigating for about 2 years and finally decided to take the plunge. The
service went really well. He was baptized by one of his best friends in the
last ward he lived in. On Sunday he was confirmed by his best friend in this
ward. It was a spiritually uplifting baptism.
After the baptism we went and
worked on our knives a little more at Brother Teeples. I'll have to send a picture of the knife I'm
working on so far. It's pretty rough at this point, but it's going to look
pretty awesome! I'm excited for it! After that we went to the 100th baptism
this month. It was awesome! Tons of missionaries were there; probably about
75-100 of them. It was pretty cool to see us meet our goal of 100 baptisms in
March. We did it! By the end of the month we should have something like 108
baptisms.
Sunday, not much really happened... We went to church for
the first 2 hours, came home and Elder Sweeten slept for a couple of hours,
then we went to lunch. Immediately following lunch we went to dinner. Sister Shope was pretty concerned about Elder
Sweeten being so sick. He has a pretty
bad sinus infection, so we're going to go to the doctor today or tomorrow.
After dinner we came back home and Elder Sweeten slept while I read the Ensign
from 6:00 to about midnight since I couldn't sleep for some reason. I've
recently been having a hard time falling asleep and I just toss and turn, so I
figure I might as well just study until I fall asleep. I have started to
absolutely love reading recently! I've read so many New Era's and Ensign's that
it's ridiculous! I even read the most recent conference in the past few nights.
I'm so excited for conference weekend! It's going to be awesome!
I love my mission and am so grateful that I'm out here!
It's hard sometimes and the Lord is definitely teaching me a lesson of
patience. I'm doing pretty well with all the things going on, so that's great!
I also actually fixed my Book of Mormon. The binding came off in the middle of
the week, so I did some research and I found that I could just use a certain
epoxy to fix it. I did it and it worked perfectly!
You would never be able to tell that it was broken at one
point. So that was a blessing that I was able to fix it for about 3 bucks!
Love,
Elder Mullins
