Life in Mesa

Jayden and his Mission President Kirk and Judy Jenkins

It's day 27 in the mission and I've loved every bit of it so far, even if it is really frustrating at times! I am doing really really well out here! I had the opportunity to shake hands with Elder Nelson on Saturday! He came and had a mission conference with us so that was really cool! A lot of people talk about how many of the general authorities are a lot taller than you would expect, but Elder Nelson is pretty much just like you would imagine. He's not that tall and he's really really gentle. He said "How's it going Elder Mullins?" I don't know, he said it to everyone, but it seemed like was genuinely curious and wanted to talk to me specifically. I don't know how he managed to have it seem like a genuine thing for everyone. I guess it's kind of like Christ atoning for our sins. He said" Hey Elder Mullins how's it going? I'm going to take all of this pain and suffering for you so that you don't have to pay for it at judgement." It was possible to make it individual because he genuinely loved us first. Without love, man is nothing!

I love being out here with Elder Parker as my companion! He loves basketball and I love music, so two very different spectrums, but it's kind of cool. He teaches me about basketball and tells me all sorts of things about it, and in exchange I get to tell him all about music and how it's one of the most powerful forces on the planet, right next to the priesthood. I feel like it's very tied with the spirit because it supports the Spirit and the Spirit supports it. Music gives the Spirit power, and the Spirit gives it power. There are few things that have that same effect on the Spirit, the reason being, the Spirit needs a pure vessel to dwell within, whether it be our own bodies or something else. We need to strive to make ourselves a pure vessel like the brother of Jared made the 16 stones pure.

I don't have a whole lot of email time right now, but I'll type what I can! I've been eating a lot of what we call a tortomlet.  It's an omlet cooked onto a tortilla.  It's really good! Eggs are cheap so that's about the only thing I have. I bought 5 dozen eggs on day one out here, and I'm down to my last 2 dozen... so that's pretty fun!

We are teaching these kids from the Congo. They are seriously the sweetest kids in the world! Jonathon who is 5 always asks me for candy, and I'm almost out! So mom, send me some sweets for little Jonathon!  Haha! His older brother Cedric who is 7 actually lied about his age so that he could get baptized. Their parents won't let them be baptized so he's been trying to convince us that he's 18 for about a week now! That's pretty funny to watch! Then the 11 year old, Francine, is just so awesome! She seriously knows everything there is about being a Mormon! It's way cool! She always has a friend over when we go over there and she always gives them a Book of Mormon if they don't already have one! She's super cool and is always texting us to see when we'll be coming by again! We're going on Friday so we're all excited about that!

Another lady who is a ward missionary is on fire right now! She keeps asking us for all sorts of Book of Mormons in weird languages.  This week she asked for 2 in Korean, 1 in Thai, and 1 in Laotian. It's crazy!

Anyway, my time is up! So see you next time! Sorry it was short!

Love,

Elder Mullins
